Hygienists
Hygienists today are highly trained professionals who provide an integral role in the dental health of their patients. In Ohio a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) must graduate from an accredited dental hygiene school with a program of at least two years in length and pass the National Hygiene Board exam. Once these are successfully completed the RDH then takes the Northeast Regional Dental Boards, which are primarily clinical exams using real patients. After passing the examinations the hygienist must then register with the Ohio State Dental Board before practicing.
Our team includes Registered Dental Hygienists with special training, education and experience in the care of comprehensive dental work. Our hygienists have extensive post-graduate training in courses such as Administering Local Anesthesia and Periodontal Therapy. In addition, some of our hygienists instruct in Dental Hygiene courses and Expanded Function Dental Assisting at Sinclair Community College. Our Hygienists regularly attend as many continuing education courses in a year as most dentists are required to take.
They perform hygienic cleanings as well as scaling and root planing procedures with attention to the special needs of porcelain veneers and other cosmetic dental materials. They also have expertise in the latest whitening techniques, periodontal and soft tissue management, home care education, and preventive tooth and gum care. Our hygienists place a special emphasis on providing these hygienic services with "TLC" and gently responding to the individual needs and preferences of every client.
Hygienic Cleanings
We believe a healthy smile is the strongest foundation for a beautiful smile. Therefore your periodontal care is of utmost priority. We customize cleanings to properly care for your specific periodontal needs. Whether a six-month, or more frequent cleaning, or full periodontal therapy, our hygienists will always strive to provide great treatment while maintaining your comfort. |

Expanded Function Dental Assistants
Expanded Function Dental Assistants (EFDA) are highly trained professionals who assist Dr. Mateer in the restorative procedures. In Ohio, the EFDA must acquire their Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) certificate, complete an additional Radiographic License, and train in an accredited EFDA program. In addition to these accomplishments our EFDAs have earned their Coronal Polishing Certificate. The EFDA certification allows the assistant to place fillings in the prepared tooth.
Our EFDAs are top professionals in the Dayton area. They instruct in the EFDA program at Sinclair Community College along with Dr. Mateer. They place high emphasis on accuracy and quality. They are the staff that you will see assisting Dr. Mateer during your restorative appointments and communicating with the dental lab about your case, along with many other responsibilities that go into making your visit as seamless and comfortable as possible.
